The Dashboard Approach

Do you carry a mental image of where items can be found in your environment? Keys on a hall table, scissors in the second drawer etc. A traditional vehicle dashboard presented a series of lookalike gauges in a series. The first might be oil pressure, the second coolant temperature, the third fuel level. The driver knew where to look for the piece of information required.

Suppose each slot in the above 7 by 9 grid was home to a specific word. And when that slot lit up you knew without looking that it was HOW or WHY or WHERE etc. Imagine a dozen dashboards of varying sizes. Imagine a dashboard in which the location from which a sentence started was an indication of its character, a dashboard in which subjects would be found here and indirect objects there. There are many possibilities, more pedestrian than those lyric videos, but potentially more useful... WORDS on SCREEN 2.
