Masculin-Féminin

Any list of most pretentious film directors is likely to have Jean-Luc Godard near the top. Masculin- Féminin is a lively exploration of modern French culture with particular emphasis on youthful relations between the sexes,  and the dilemma of excessive American influence. Godard uses the very modest plot as a framework for his own ideas. Paul, the main protagonist, played by Jean-Pierre Leaud has a friend who puts up political posters around town. This was 1965, so the political unrest of 1968 was coming. Godard puts up posters here and there within his own movie.

The subtitle translates this as “The mole is blind but burrows in a particular direction...” perhaps the motto of male sexual desire as Paul pursues Madelaine, who has just released her first pop song.

...MAKE OF THAT WHAT YOU LIKE

He ends the film with FÉMININ and then artfully subtracts the middle letters to get FIN, the END. The added colors are mine.
